Niger is, in many ways, in the heart of Africa. Of the Africa that, for some reason, we call black. The one who suffered two colonizations very distant in time and did not manage to overcome any of them. The first of Niger’s colonizations was Muslim. Economically adaptable to the occupied territories, it altered the original social organization and eventually established itself as a religious and cultural reference. It is not the only one, but it is the majority. The second colonization is European. French, specifically. And although by the time the French arrived in Niger, they were already under the motto of libert\u00e9, \u00e9galit\u00e9 et fraternit\u00e9, none of these maxims should be valid for someone who was not exactly French. The second colonization had a more eminently economic character. Despite the emancipation of the country in 1967, this colonization remains. Now it is called commerce and the power of French commerce, of French companies, is enormous upon the meager Nigerian economic structure.
