Even if some people show off a lot for no reason. There are those who drag their legs and those who carry overtime on their backs. There are those who carry the weight of their frankness and there are those who wear the mask with all the weight of self-portraiture. There are those who pretend to suffer and those who pretend to be suffered. There are those who pretend to do with the full weight of the consequences. There are those who pretend to be there, there are those who pretend to be. There is that difference.

Carnival does not exist. Not because the rite is unhealthy, but because carnival has been surpassed by reality in its transformist operation. Nor is it true that the truth is only told through disguise: the spiral of dissimulation has so many successive layers of fiction and reality that it is impossible to recognise which is the natural part, and which is the constructed part. The envelope of dissimulation no longer allows for distinctions. It allows a new phenomenon: the acceptance that there is no distinction between the layers; that the sum of the superimpositions is what, in the end, represents us. That thing that comes with us is also us, as if the rucksack of what we disguise ourselves as ends up being a new limb that forms part of the daily weight that we move and that we need to dope so that it can be incorporated into our identity at an accelerated rate. That part that comes with us we consider newly colonised territory, we occupy its space and put new languages on it, hoping that everything will be confused enough to take advantage of it. Like an implant that prevents us from distinguishing which part of the cyborg we are.

The carnival exists. But it’s like 24/7 pharmacies. It is in permanent operation so that nothing falls out and, if it does, let it be as if it were. And we go on. The question is why the mask seems more fun at the carnival than the rest of the year. Maybe it’s because we don’t give up the drama.

If we abandon dramatism we will see that we are all more or less the same, that we are more equal than different.
